Cable TV wasn’t working so I found it by accident
Synopsis
Follows a failing high school heavy metal band of misfits who take advantage of the town’s sudden interest in the occult to build a reputation as a satanic metal band, until a strange series of events sparks a witch hunt that leads back to them. All episode titles are taken from songs by heavy metal/hard rock bands. Hysteria by Def Lepard, Heaven’s on fire by KISS, Speaking in tongues by Meatloaf, Can I play with madness by Iron Maiden, Die young by Black Sabbath, Mother by Danzig, It’s late by Queen and Dance Macabre by Ghost.
The parents are what you’d expect from an 80s TV series
The Peacock isn’t my usual streamer, but I got a good price for it. Anyway, I wasn’t expecting much, but I love a good horror comedy and this was better than expected. I like that it’s set in the 80s because it gives the whole thing a “you have to be an adult” feel.
The second story is about how all the adults go into frothy religious hysteria (get it?) over their kids
When a teenage soccer star goes missing and is later found in what appears to be a ritual death, two stories begin to run in parallel. Three misfits who have a hard rock band that no one attends decide to use this as an opportunity to promote their band. They convince everyone that they are Satanists, which works for a moment, but then makes them prime suspects in the murder.
The two main characters are Linda and Tracy
Tracy is a good villain in this as she is willing to use Linda’s fear of not understanding her son and his decisions to send the town into hysteria. The series isn’t perfect, but it says interesting things about how parents are afraid of not understanding their children if they don’t follow the plan for them. But it also shows that behind the fear and paranoia lies real danger.
